The two most important things you need to have with you when tackling Africa - are water and fuel. We have already fitted a 73 litre water tank to the vehicle so now we turn our attention to our fuel supply.

Africa cannot by any stretch of the imagination be classed as a country where fuel stations abound on every corner - and even if you are lucky enough to find one open, it could be as dry as your empty fuel tank.

Answer: fit a larger tank. We fitted a tank with a capacity of 140 litres compared to the original 73 litres capacity. You can see the two tanks on the left.

Had to remove the tank again because there wasn't enough room for it. After cutting the corner away and re-welding, we re-fitted the tank back onto the vehicle.

Above you can see that the tank is wedged up against the back axle. We cut the corner off the tank.

Here is the re-fitted unit giving the back axle the clearance it needs.

Karen shows how it should be done. John looks impressed!
Now's the time for reinforcements. How and where are we going to pack all the things we need to take with us?

Ole and Anette arrive to help solve the problem and we did - or they did!
